Description
Eight-ounce waxed cotton from a mill that has been doing it for a very long time, cut into a straight mid-thigh coat and lined through the body with a brushed lambswool blend. The sleeves are lined in smooth cotton twill so it goes on over a jacket without fighting you.
This is the coat for the shoulder of the season and for rain that arrives sideways. Waxed cotton does not breathe like a membrane, so it works best when you are moving at a walking pace rather than climbing a hill. The corduroy collar closes with a throat latch, the handwarmer pockets sit behind the bellows pockets so they stay dry, and the whole thing can be re-waxed on a kitchen table with a tin of dressing and a hairdryer rather than being thrown away.
Specification
- Outer: 8oz dry-finish waxed cotton
- Lining: brushed lambswool blend body, cotton twill sleeves

- Made in Portugal
Fit
A straight, unfussy cut with room for a sweater. If you are between sizes and want to layer a thick knit underneath, take the larger one.
Care
Sponge clean with cold water only. Never machine wash, never dry clean and never put it near a radiator. Re-wax once a year, or whenever water stops beading on the shoulders.

Wore it through six weeks of coastal rain and stayed dry every time. The wool lining makes it warmer than I expected for how light it is. Re-waxed the cuffs myself after two months and it took twenty minutes.

The coat itself is excellent and the fabric is the real thing. My complaint is sizing: I am usually a solid L and the L was tight across the shoulders with a sweater on, so I exchanged for XL. Worth knowing before you order.

Smells like wax for the first week, which is normal but nobody warned me. Bellows pockets are big enough for gloves and a paperback. Corduroy collar has not gone shiny.
