Description
Woven at a mill in the Scottish Borders from Australian lambswool, in a fine herringbone that reads as a solid colour from across a room. After weaving the cloth is teasel-brushed to raise the nap, which is what gives it the soft handle and traps a layer of still air against the neck. Two metres long by thirty centimetres wide, with 6cm of fringe hand-tied at both ends.
At this length you can loop it twice and still have enough to tuck into a jacket. It’s the scarf for a January commute rather than a mountain, and it takes a fold well enough to sit flat under a coat lapel without bulking at the throat. Lambswool softens with wear rather than pilling out, so the third winter is usually better than the first.

Care
Air after wearing rather than washing. When it does need cleaning, hand wash cool with wool detergent or take it to a dry cleaner, and comb the fringe straight while damp.

The length is what sold me. I can double-loop it and still tuck the ends in, which no scarf I’ve bought before managed. Brushed finish is soft against bare skin, no itch on the neck.

Good honest lambswool and the weave is tight. Shed a little fluff onto a dark coat the first two or three wears and then stopped. Worth knowing but not a reason to avoid it.

Warm out of proportion to how thin it is. I’ve worn it under a light jacket down to freezing and been comfortable. The hand-tied fringe has held up with no unravelling after a full winter.
