Description

Woven on shuttle looms in Okayama and finished in our Anchorage workroom, the Sitka uses a 14oz right-hand twill that arrives stiff and loosens into shape over the first month. The denim is unsanforized, so it is cut oversized and sized to shrink. Seams are chain-stitched, the fly is a five-button placket, and the pocket bags are 8oz herringbone cotton rather than the thin poly most jeans hide in there.

This is the pair we reach for when the temperature sits below freezing and a lightweight jean would feel like paper. The straight leg clears a boot without bunching, and the back yoke is cut deep enough that the waist stays put when you crouch. The coin pocket is stitched a half inch wider than standard so a gloved thumb can actually get into it.

Specification

  • Fabric: 14oz selvedge denim, unsanforized
  • Weave: right-hand twill, shuttle loomed in Okayama, Japan
  • Pocket bags: 8oz herringbone cotton
  • Hardware: copper rivets, branded shank button, five-button fly
  • Construction: chain-stitched seams and hem

Fit

Mid rise with a straight leg and a 7.5in leg opening. Cut with roughly one inch of shrink allowance in the waist and two in the inseam.

Care

Soak cold before first wear to set the shrink, then wash sparingly and inside out. Hang dry flat; machine drying will pull the leg short and can twist the seam.

Bought these in October and wore them most days through breakup season. The denim has finally softened at the knees and the fades are coming in honestly. The wide coin pocket sounds like a gimmick until you try to get a key out of it with mitts on.

  2. Priya Raman (verified owner)

Good jean, but the shrink allowance caught me out. I soaked them as instructed and the inseam came up shorter than I expected, so I would size up on length if you are between sizes. The denim itself is excellent.

Genuinely heavy denim, which is what I wanted. Took about three weeks before sitting down was comfortable. Only note is that the button fly is stiff enough at first that you need both hands.
