Description
Cut from the back of a vegetable-tanned bridle hide, the firmest part of the skin, and finished at 3.5mm thick with no bonded filler or split layers. The edges are bevelled, sanded and burnished with gum, then the whole strap is hand-dyed and hot-waxed. Five holes, punched at 25mm centres.
The buckle is solid cast brass on a Chicago screw rather than a rivet, so if the leather eventually wears through at the fold you can move the buckle to a new strap instead of replacing the whole thing. It arrives stiff and stays that way for a few weeks, then takes on the curve of your waist and stops fighting you. Choose the size that matches your trouser waist, not your jeans label.

Care
Keep it dry where you can, and if it does get soaked let it dry away from a radiator. A light coat of leather balm twice a year will keep the fibres supple and stop cracking at the fold.

Properly thick leather, no bending or curling at the tip like the cheap laminated belts. The brass buckle has taken on a bit of patina already and looks better for it. Should outlast the trousers.

Very stiff for the first month, which I’d been warned about. It’s softened now and sits flat. The screw-in buckle is a sensible touch, I’ve already swapped mine onto the other side for left-handed buckling.

No complaints about the quality, this is a well-made belt. But I sized off the number on my jeans and it came up two holes too big, so read their sizing note properly. Exchange was straightforward at least.
