Description

Knitted rather than cut and sewn, in an 18.5 micron merino with a fine rib through the body that gives it a little stretch and keeps it from clinging. The placket is knitted in and pressed flat, and the collar is worked with a firm edge so it stands without interfacing.

A knitted polo is the piece that solves the awkward temperature between a t-shirt and a sweater. Merino handles a warm afternoon and a cool evening without a change of clothes, and the rib means it drapes off the shoulder rather than pulling across the chest. The sleeve is cut a fraction longer than a standard polo so it finishes mid-bicep, which most people find more comfortable.

Specification

  • Yarn: 100% extra-fine merino, 18.5 micron
  • Structure: fine rib body, fully fashioned
  • Placket: three corozo buttons, knitted-in
  • Made in Portugal

Fit

Close but not tight, following the shoulder. True to size. The rib gives roughly two centimetres of give across the chest.

Care

Hand wash cool or wool cycle in a mesh bag, dry flat. Do not hang, or the shoulders will grow. Steam rather than iron the collar.

Better than the two much more expensive knit polos in my drawer. The collar actually stands up on its own after a wash. Bought the bone on sale and immediately ordered the navy.

  2. T. Iqbal (verified owner)

Rib gives it enough stretch that it does not pull across the shoulders. Sleeve length is right. Only caution is that the bone shows everything, so plan accordingly.

  3. Fiona McAllister (verified owner)

Wore it four days straight on a trip in warm weather and it never smelled. Dries flat overnight in a hotel room. The knitted placket sits flat instead of curling.
